Favorite Beer

Actually surprised this thread hasn't been started already. So as someone who enjoys trying a wide range of beers, I'm tossing it out there.

I have my opinions on a number of microbrews, seasonals, Belgians, and imports, but I'd rather let you all start it off, and I'll jump in later.

Please list where the beer is based out of, so those interested have a lead on how to find it.

And if you really just want to list your opinions on different beers you've tried, that's more than OK, too.

i've been brewing my own beer for a while now.. not the fancy start from scratch type .. but the open a can of consentrated malts and hopps, boil to a wort, add yeast, wait, bottle, wait, drink repeat.

my favorite is a Belgian Ale, but i also dig the India Pale ales ...

the latest batch i brewed is an apricot ale.

i like a good lager but lagering takes more time and methodology then i have the patience/equipment for.

brewing beer keeps the per beer cost to about $.45. which in WA is not quite enough to get you BEER beer. but the taste is more akin to the $1-$1.50/bottle type beers.

i also dig FireRock ale supposedly from hawaii , and LongHammer IPA

9mm ale is a local brew in the seattle area that is insane 13% alcohol content.

kiltlifter ale is another one that is good..
seattle has lots of microbrews .. ooo west seattle brewery has "ring tale ale" which is tangy goodness.

brewing beer with my method isn't much more involved than bag-o-beer .. open two cans (just like large soup cans) .. mix with some water and bring to a boil... add water to a container (fermenter) .. mix with the stuff that was just boiling .. add yeast .. done with part A ... wait a week... then pour that stuff into the bottles (because i run a limo company i have an ample supply of champagne magnums and apple cider bottles, which make great recycled beer bottles.. and its green! hah) then ya just cap it and put it somewhere for at least another week.. but th stuff doesnt' go bad for over a year ... and chill n enjoy.

total brewing time for 130 or so "bottles" (12oz) of beer in the course of a month is 8 hrs of labor .. and that is mainly the sanitizing of the bottles and the clean up (so the wife doesn't get bent)

my "system" (heh.. i used that term loooosely) consists of two Mr Beer fermenting containers, a bottle capping "machine" bottle caps, corn sugar, water, bottles and malt. i spend about $50/month on supplies to make that 130 "bottles" of beer.

i used to have a kegerator, but my supply of kegs-for-limo-trade dried up, and kegs for GOOD beer are $150+ for 160 "bottles" .. i can make it for 50% of that cost and 85% of the flavor...

(no i don't actually drink 130 beers a month.. some weeks due to scheduling etc i dont' brew... some times i bring beers to friends house for them to try, or down to Utilikilts for the minions, and we stand around and King of the hill it... ayup! .. and i like to have a back up supply .. since the stuff doesn't really go bad ... though right now .. because of three brew delays, i'm down to... about 60 or so "bottles" in reserve
i quote "bottles" because i do brew in the 20-28 oz large bottles not the 12oz standard bottle, so the ACTUAL count is not 60, just the equivelent amount of beer.

still sounds like more work than i'm really into
i do use the old glass 5 gal water bottles
with a sun still top to make vodka on occaision
but most of that is just waiting after 30 minutes mixing

A really good beer is hard to find, and I've never tried to brew one on my own.

But I can suggest an Irish beer. A pint of Murphys stout is a great beer.
It's a good dark beer with a great taste that really is something for your tastebuds. (if you like a dark beer that is)
