Does everybody dig where they live?

I am reminded at this time every year why I love Perth because it is when the beach gets absolutely perfect, to the point where I don't mind being sticky from sunscreen almost all the time! Though I am currently rocking a ridiculous tan line following a New Years day barbeque. The woe of being a student is that you don't see the sun for the first month of summer and then you are unprepared for it.

No, I don't really care for it here, planning on getting out hopefully this summer (a move to Seattle is tentatively in the works). My ultimate goal is to get out of USA altogether, though that's so far off in the future I haven't thought much about where I want to go -- just that I want to get out of here!

Seattle is a nice place to live.. though the politics are decidedly not to my likings.. it certainly has some great up points.. we're 2hrs to the border into canada.. we are surrounded by mountains which (generally) gives us a much milder climate than we would otherwise enjoy being as far north as we are (trivia, seattle is the furthest most "major" city in the continental US) if you like water.. we've got that.. if you like forests.. we've got that.. if you like skiiing.. we've got that... a couple of comments from visitors that are commmon are "wow.. its sooo green" because even in the hottest hot of summer here.. its still mostly green. and in the winter.. only about half our trees lose leaves.. the other half are evergreens .. (hence "the evergreen state")

downsides (aside from politics/taxes/traffic) .. we are surrounded by 3 "active" volcanoes (active i guess means they've gone off in the last 150 years or so) and we are also prone to earthquakes (though the last major one **knocks on wood** was in feb 2001) and it didn't do TOOO much damage... its a helluva thing tho.. oh and currently the state is the sole possessor of liquor stores.. so you get RAPED buyin liquor here.. (eg: half gallon of Jim Beam in a vegas casino liquor store : $29.95, here .. $42.95) mostly taxes.. but also because no competition.. as in idaho, oregon and BC canada ALLL have government monopolies on liquor.

property, even tho economically suppressed.. is STILL insanely expensive.. i live in a POS built in 1968 1200sq foot rambler on a shy acre .. and its worth over $300k and i'm in the not rich zone.. same house in the "rich" cities 8-10 miles north of us.. it'd be over a half a mill .. same house in ...say Detroit .. would be like $25 .. MAYBE.

I've heard good things about Seattle... it's where my dad wanted to be stationed during his last years in the Air Force so that he could retire there but the gov't in its infinite wisdom stuck him in San Antonio instead lol. I remember my mom was all excited because apparently you can go to the beach in the morning and go skiing in the mountains in the afternoon. I'm not a get-out-and-have-fun type of person but the variety should be a nice change from the flat, sun-baked monotony of SA.

The politics and liquor situations shouldn't bother me as I don't pay much attention to politics and I don't drink ;) (related? could be... lol)

though it is techinically true that you can visit the beach and then go skiiing only about an hours drive .. what wasnt' mentioned is that the Puget Sound (the water next to seattle) year round is a balmy 43f .. and THAT will make yer balls retreat and yer tits fall off. the saying goes " you know you're from the Northwest if you believe swimming to be an indoor sport" there are beaches.. and even on a hot day.. the beach is nice.. full of peoples n such.. but the water.. remains.. C O L D (at least past about 18inches)

Oh man haha that sounds intense!

My mom was born and raised in Elmira, New York. Everytime we visit up there she tries to get me to go swimming; it's always insanely cold. Think I'll be sticking to dry land; she can go swimming if she wants.

Far North Queensland is pretty nice. The only real drawback is the people :P Mostly AJs (Army Jocks) who often enjoy drinking at the uniclub and often get into fights or move a bit too strongly on a girl. James Cook University (Townsville) is alright, the location is great, and there is often added excitement from getting chased by plovers, menaced by bush turkeys (not as scary as the American ones I'm told), distracted by wallabies and occasionally scared witless by curlews at night due to their deathscreamlike cry.

Unfortunately Americans at JCU have a bit of a reputation for being the 'dregs' as many who come here either come to do Marine based degrees- best uni in the world for that- or because they couldn't get in somewhere at home or had to leave for other reasons. And when they are about to go home, many feel the need to sexually conquer an aussie. I've spent a few exam weeks in hiding from various individuals O.o

And you the rest of you who have already commented: what is this concept called cold, and why is your rain white and fluffy?

"Cold" is the lack of heat. It sucks. And white and fluffy rain is called "snow." It rocks, for the sole reason that you cannot make snowballs out of rain. :P

I'm from Boston, MA although I also have ties to Rochester, NY which is like the king of cold and snow and wind. Both cities are pretty rad. :3

The deepest, darkest corners of Africa...
Johannesburg, South Africa to be a bit more precise.
Rolling salad down a hill on peanut powered water skis on a Tuesday, all while balancing a chipmunk in an empty jam tin on my left ear? Sounds simple enough. http://alphanumericsheeppig.blogspot.com

Ooh, South Africa! Lucky.
I want to move there when I uh, expire.
Y'know, after I'm bored of seeing the world and need to finally settle down and sleep, or whatever.

...I ramble.

I'm from a small suburb of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania called Broomall.

I like where I live, as Dante can attest, SE CT is not a bad area, but I'm looking at moving to the Everett/Multikeo area of Washington. Have friends up there and since driving out there in 2004, have wanted to go back since I left..

Fort Hood, Texas. I'm stationed here, but I'm from the area, so I like Central Texas, but not so much a fan of the installation.

East Lothian, Scotland.

It's nice enough but I'm bored with the place now and really want to travel further afield.
